Michael Tops Disney Dance Chart

Posted in: 21st July 2011

Michael Jackson has topped a poll of the greatest dance moments ever captured on film and actually made the top five list not once, but twice!

The King of Pop’s famous zombie dance in the “Thriller” video was voted number one in the Disney Channel survey and beat out the cast of High School Musical and their performance of “We’re All In This Together.”

Rounding out the poll were dancer Tobias Mead’s amazing audition for UK TV show Britain’s Got Talent in 2010 for third place; Jackson’s iconic “Smooth Criminal” video in fourth place; and Hannah Montana’s “Hoedown Throwdown” and Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” video tied for fifth place.

In the Disney Channel survey Jackson was also named the King of Dance, ahead of British boy band JLS, High School Musical star Zac Efron, and singer/actor Justin Timberlake.

Facing heavyweight competition from the likes of the late Henry Cooper, Muse secured victory over Live Aid, England’s historic 1966 World Cup victory, Foo Fighters, the 1994 Rugby Challenge Cup Final, Queen’s 1986 Magic tour and the Michael Jackson Bad Tour. Wembley Stadium has been the setting for so many great events, not forgetting last month’s FA Cup Final and Champions League finale. Now Muse’s Greatest Event victory will be marked with a permanent installation at Wembley Stadium which sport and music fans can enjoy for many years to come.

Muse said: “We were honoured to be the first band to play at the new Wembley and now for our performance to have been chosen as the greatest is an amazing accolade, especially when you consider the sporting and music legends we were up against. We’ll be back at Wembley again in the future and would like to thank all our fans for voting!”

Melvin Benn Chairman of Wembley Stadium, said: “Some of the greatest events over the last 50 years have taken place at Wembley Stadium. Now the Greatest Event campaign has allowed fans to look back and remember some of the most memorable moments of the past and celebrate them alongside some of our more recent moments in sport and music entertainment.

“Whilst all Wembley’s events have been special, Muse are very deserving winners for their 2007 Wembley concerts which were nothing short of spectacular. For me it is fitting that a band widely acknowledged for being one of the best live acts in the world has now been recognised for putting on the Greatest Event at Wembley Stadium, one of the best live entertainment venues in the world.”

Throughout May over one million football, sport and music fans visited the stadium’s new website with over 55,000 voting for their Greatest Event. Fans were joined by a host of famous faces backing their favourite Wembley event including Rolling Stones legendary guitarist Ronnie Wood, Martin ‘Chariots’ Offiah, Sunderland fan and Olympian Steve Cram, FA Cup winner and ex England International David James and even the Prime Minister David Cameron.

One lucky fan who voted for Wembley’s Greatest Event will host a box for 20 friends at the England V Holland International match at Wembley in August and every voting fan who also signed up to receive the Wembley newsletter received a kids go free offer on the Wembley Stadium Tour.

As the curtain closes on the football season, the national stadium is now looking forward to Take That’s sell-out Progress live tour, which will cover a record breaking eight nights at Wembley, the most nights ever played by an act in the stadium’s history.
