‘Celebrating 50 Years of a Legend’ Event 2008

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

THE KING OF POP FANCLUB
OFFICIAL STATEMENT

RE: ‘Celebrating 50 Years of a Legend’ Event 2008

‘King of Pop’ fanclub has now released details of its upcoming event in celebration of Michael Jackson’s 50th birthday. The event is titled ‘Celebrating 50 Years of a Legend’ and will be an even better experience than our launch party last year at the London Hippodrome.

VENUE
The venue this year is outside London. This might come as a surprise to many but after a long look at location to where fans were based, we felt that it was better to bring the venue this way for this year. By doing so we have located a venue that will deliver what the fans need to make this event special. The location is excellent to train stations (Romford), to many eating places along the high street, to hotels, to parking within 1 minute walk from the venue. The best point of all is the costs to all of these. Last year we found that fans spent too much on hotels, parking and food within London, and to make matters worse the prices of drinks within the venue didn’t help. So we took all this on board.

AFTER-PARTY
The After-party is strictly for over 18’s and will be very limited. ID will also be required in the form of a Driving License or Passport.

PERFORMERS
Performer details will be released over the next couple of weeks. We will invite back some of the excellent performers from last year, and include some new faces. If you would like to perform please contact us via events@kingofpop.info with details of yourself and performance. There are a couple of places available but this will depend on variety – as we don’t want 15 versions of ‘Billie Jean’ ! In addition to the performers we are also holding a singing and dancing competition at the event. This will give fans a chance to perform their talents in front of all. Please check the events section of the site for performers to come. (Our new Events page will be launching within the next 10 days)

MAGAZINE
We are hoping to release a magazine/programme Celebrating 50 Years of a Legend. This is still in the pipeline and more details will be released soon.

After the success of last year, we look forward to carrying on the high standard that ‘King of Pop’ fanclub has set. Please know that this event will be even busier than last year as we have more than doubled our memberships over the past 12 months. So book early to avoid disappointment.

Please direct all questions and enquiries to events@kingofpop.info.

Thank you

‘Step It Up & Dance’ To Perform At Thriller Night

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Bravo, a NBC cable network since December 2002 which is dedicated to film and the performing arts, announced that for the first time ever, the entire cast of the show “Step It Up & Dance” will perform together live to honor the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” at the Tribeca Film Festival Drive-In.

As we reported earlier, the Thriller Night at the Tribeca Film Festival will take place on April 24, 2008 at the World Financial Center Plaza (NY, USA). In addition to the first time performance by the “Step It Up & Dance” cast, filmmaker and Thriller video director John Landis will screen the epic 1984 music video “Thriller” and the “Making Of Thriller” documentary.

As part of the event, “Step it Up & Dance” judge and long-time Michael Jackson choreographer, Vincent Paterson will be on site to teach the audience a few classic “Thriller” dance moves. The audience will also take part in the world’s largest zombie disco, a Michael Jackson dance contest, and Thriller face-painting stations. The event is free to the public, doors open at 6PM.

Paterson, a world-renowned director and choreographer, has directed and choreographed the “Bad” tour for Michael Jackson as well as conceived and choreographed the video “Smooth Criminal.” He was a dancer and the assistant choreographer for “Thriller” and directed the video “Blood on the Dance Floor,” among many other Michael Jackson music videos and live performances. He is currently engrossed in directing and writing Cirque Du Soleil’s “Elvis” set to open at Las Vegas’ CityCenter in 2009.

“Step It Up & Dance” airs every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo. It features weekly challenges in which 12 of the best dancers from the USA audition. The dancers have access to some of the top choreographers in the industry performing in styles that range from hip-hop and freestyle to Broadway, burlesque and Latin. Judges on the show are Vincent Paterson and choreographer Nancy O’Meara (”Hannah Montana,” “High School Musical Tour”). Each week contestants are eliminated and only one person will get the final “call back” and the chance to become the ultimate dancer, winning $100,000.

Thriller 25th Anniversary Fan Event in New York City

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

On Saturday February 9, over 200 Michael Jackson fans gathered at the Sage Theater in Times Square, the heart of New York City to celebrate the release of Thriller 25. Michael posters covered the walls, memorabilia on display, as the new album played and fans discussed their MJ memories.

The event was organized by performer Pete Carter, 23 years old, from Toms River, New Jersey. A fan since the age of seven, Pete called dozens of performers and crew members together to make this event possible.

“You took my breath away. The entire night was amazing. Your show was so well organised and it was such a nice sized intimate setting that made everything so much more enjoyable and interactive.” said Vernay Lewis of MJFC (USA).

Valerie Tobias of Club Michael Jackson said “I must say it was a spectacular evening filled with magic. When the doors opened, we walked into an MJ world! There were lights, posters all over the walls, and people all around waiting to greet each other. The music was blasting, I was in the front row singing along and moving my arms as each performer performed.”

Longtime fan from Brooklyn, Reva Thomas said “I loved the show, and ambience of the venue. The show had a unique, eclectic, neo-soul twist flavour, and I truly enjoyed the interactive features.”

She was referring to the Ultimate Fan Contest, which challenged fans to name the title of a MJ song by listening to a small second long clip. Eliminated one by one, the winner left standing was Beverly Brown from Philadelphia, PA. Beverly took home the deluxe edition of Thriller 25, The Visionary Box Set and The Ultimate Collection Box Set…all provided by SonyBMG.

HOSTED BY: Stepp Stewart of “The Stepp Stewart Show” and Michael Walton, track star, and motivational speaker who is currently training for the 2008 Olympics.

PERFORMERS: Odysy, Jon O’Shaunessey, Anthony D’Amato, Courtney Cooper, Nhojj, Jermaine Forrester, Nitty, Petrel, edibleRed, Ryan James, and Pete Carter.
