Supermodel Remembers Michael From Her Childhood

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

In a recent interview with the New Zealand Herald, Sudanese supermodel Alek Wek spoke of her fond memories of Michael Jackson:

“Michael Jackson really is the king of pop. When my friends talk about childhood, I’ve never heard of any cartoons or TV they remember. The only thing we share is Michael Jackson. That’s how far his music travelled - to a remote village on the other side of the world. When the militias came to Wau (Sudan), they would blast out ‘Thriller’ as they moved down the dirt streets.”

Alek is best recognized for her work with prestigious fashion designers John Galliano, Donna Karen and Calvin Klein. She was also featured in the video for Janet Jackson’s “Got ‘Til It’s Gone” in 1997.

Judge Rejects New Trial In Jackson Taping Case

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

A judge on Monday denied a new trial for a Santa Monica-based air charter service that was ordered to pay $20.25 million for secretly videotaping Michael Jackson and his lawyers as they flew to the pop star’s surrender on molestation charges in 2003.

Superior Court Judge Soussan G. Bruguera rejected the motion by the now-defunct company XtraJet Inc. and its owner Jeffrey Borer.

In March, Bruguera ordered XtraJet to pay the $20.25 million to Jackson’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, and his associate, Pat Harris, for invading their privacy in order to sell the video of Jackson to the media. The pop star was a plaintiff in the 2003 lawsuit, but later withdrew from the case.

Borer and his associate Arvel Jetter Reeves, the mechanic who installed cameras in the plane, pleaded guilty to conspiracy last year. Borer was sentenced to six months home detention so he could care for his ailing wife, while Reeves received an eight-month prison sentence.

Borer’s lawyer, Lloyd Kirschbaum, said he would appeal the compensatory and punitive awards.

Kirschbaum said the judge ignored crucial evidence in favor of his client because she mistakenly believed that the tape included sound.

Without audio captured on the tape, Geragos and Harris could not claim a breach of the attorney-client privilege, Kirschbaum argued.

He also said the plaintiff won’t be able to collect from XtraJet because the company is bankrupt.

“It’s like trying to get money from Enron,” Kirschbaum said.

Geragos’ attorney, Brian Kabateck, praised the decision. He said Kirschbaum’s motion raised the same issues the defence had argued unsuccessfully before.

Even if the tape, which is in the hands of the FBI, had no audio on it when obtained by authorities, the intention was to record conversations, said Kabateck.

Beckhams’ Trip to Neverland

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Victoria Beckham has revealed she has taken her sons to Michael Jackson’s home Neverland.

The Spice Girl, who has three sons with husband David Beckham - Brooklyn, nine, Romeo, five, and three-year-old Cruz - defended the outlandish pop star, saying what a nice place for families it is.

Victoria told London’s Heart Radio:

“I’ve been to Neverland with the kids. I’m not going to say if Michael Jackson was there. It was amazing and I have met Michael Jackson and he’s a very nice man. What I thought was really nice is there’s pictures of family everywhere and that’s what I mean about a lot of these people are actually really nice and just the same as everybody else. They’ve got pictures of kids up everywhere, which I think is really cool. Pictures of his kids!

“You wouldn’t imagine that because we do read such bizarre things about everybody.”
