Jackson Tour News: Real or Bogus?

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

Joe Jackson and MGM Mirage disavowed an Internet report Thursday that Michael Jackson was launching a tour June 10 at the Luxor.

“He’s not doing nothing like that, and I was with him this morning,” said Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson’s father.

Jenn Michaels, vice president of corporate relations for MGM Mirage, said the Luxor “has nothing scheduled with Michael Jackson on that date or any date for that matter.” In addition, she said, the Luxor Theatre will be undergoing renovation and will not be available.

The Hollywood-based gossip Web site TMZ.com ran a copy of what appeared to be an invitation to the Jackson tour kickoff event at the Luxor.

The event includes the show, dinner and a two-hour meet-and-greet, according to the invitation.

“Join the Luxor in celebrating the ‘Live Forever’ tour,” said the invitation, wording that raised eyebrows and the possibility that it was a hoax.

TMZ.com said the invitation was “first obtained by” Michael Politz, a Las Vegas food and beverage publisher who co-writes a weekly blog about local happenings and celebrities.

Politz, reached by telephone, said he received the invitation from someone involved in designing it. He said he passed it along to TMZ.com before posting it on his own site because “I wanted to get more traffic to my site.”

Politz said he was “nervous” about the validity of the invitation but, six hours later, still had not received any complaints about the TMZ.com report that named him.

He acknowledged he didn’t call Luxor executives for comment. “They know how to reach me. I knew if I called (Luxor President) Felix (Rappaport), he would deny it, so I decided what’s the point.”

The invitation asked that guest responses be made to event coordinator Arial Martinez and listed a Luxor Internet address. The Web site appeared to be connected to the Luxor, but the requested page could not be found.

Asked if he had any involvement in the event, Politz said no, but he added, “Wouldn’t that be awesome?”

Earlier in the day, Fox News columnist Roger Friedman reported that Michael Jackson was hospitalized with pneumonia. Jackson’s publicist, Raymone K. Bain, told The Associated Press that the pop singer was “under the weather” but was “not in the hospital, and he has not been in the hospital.”

Michael Jackson Hits London

Friday, March 16th, 2007

Michael Jackson arrived in London on Wednesday (March 14th) after spending the week wowing fans in Japan.

As Michael arrived at London’s Heathrow Airport he remained tight lipped about the reason for his visit although Michael’s spokesperson Raymone Bain had previously told fans that he was visiting London on a personal visit to see friends.

Michael arrived at Heathrow accompanied by his children and his usual entourage. There were also many fans at the airport and of course the usual press and paparazzi.

Rumour has it that Michael Jackson is staying at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower at London’s Cadogan Palace in fashionable Knightsbridge. No doubt he’ll be staying in the hotel’s 170 sq. m. Presidential Suite which offers panoramic views of the city, has a separate living room, bedroom, spacious dressing room and superbly equipped kitchenette. Amenities in the suite include a sauna and state-of-the-art entertainment with 42 inch plasma screen TVs, CD and DVD player.

“It has been amazing to see how people will risk life and limb darting in and out of traffic on foot to get a glimpse of Michael or to touch him. The fans in Japan literally inhale him,” Jamie said. “He is very accommodating … very happy, kissing and hugging folks and letting them hold him and hug him.”

It’s been widely reported that Michael Jackson is back in the USA. How did You learn about it?

I worked with MJ to bring him back to the USA.

Did You meet with him since he is residing in Las Vegas?

Yes.

According to some sources You play an important role in Mr. Jackson’s Las Vegas plans. How would You
describe Your position?

Dealmaker and fan of MJ’s talent.

We had an interview with You back in 2005, when You explained that You were the one who created the concept of a Las Vegas Jackson show. Were there any updates in this case?

I wouldn’t create the show. I would create the deal.

Is Donald Trump involved in the proceedings?

Confidential. Can’t talk about specific deals or participants.

What are Your thoughts about a possible Michael Jackson show in Las Vegas? Could it be a huge success?

Michael Jackson show in Las Vegas would be the hottest ticket on the planet. MJ has a huge international fan base that would welcome his return to performances and would travel great distances knowing he has a new show staged. America loves a comeback and this would be the biggest comeback in entertainment history.

In Your opinion what would be the best thing to do for Mr. Jackson? I mean both musically and financially.

MJ is a superstar. When MJ is ready to ‘comeback’ he will be the one to make that decision. No one else can make that decision for him.

The fans and music lovers are incredibly curious about Mr. Jackson’s Las Vegas plans. Is there anything that You can share with us?

Confidential. But the fans will know if there is anything to disclose, before the press or the general public.

Michael Jackson Greets Troops In Japan

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

Michael Jackson greeted thousands of U.S. troops and their family members at a U.S. Army base south of Tokyo Saturday, taking a break from days of parties with die-hard fans and well-heeled business people.

About 3,000 troops and their family members gathered at a fitness center at Camp Zama. Jackson walked around shaking hands and exchanging words to thank them for their service.

“Those of you in here today are some of the most special people in the world,” Jackson told the crowd, reading from a statement. “It is because of you in here today, and others who so valiantly have given their lives to protect us, that we enjoy our freedom.”

Jackson, 48, arrived in Japan last Sunday for his second trip in less than a year to attend parties including an extravagant gala held Thursday in Tokyo.

Jackson Attends Party for His Fans

Friday, March 9th, 2007

By Eric Talmadge

After a $3,500-a-head gala the day before, Michael Jackson attended another party in Tokyo for his less affluent fans, more than 1,000 of whom crowded a popular nightclub Friday for an evening with the King of Pop.

Tickets for Friday’s party went for $130, a fraction of the $3,500 that several hundred fans and business people paid for a chance to meet and greet Jackson the night before at a dinner held in his honour.

Jackson offered only brief remarks at the end of that six-hour party and did not perform.

At Friday’s party, guests — most in the 20s or 30s — were treated to a stage show of gospel singers, Michael Jackson impersonators, but were not given the one-on-one opportunity that “premium” ticket partygoers got the night before. Jackson watched the show from a second-floor VIP room.

Japan remains one of Jackson’s strongest fan bases, and Jackson fans have been out in force since his arrival in Tokyo on Sunday.

A screaming mob greeted him at the airport and more crowded outside a popular electronics shop that gave him the run of the store after-hours the following day. Before leaving Japan, Jackson was also scheduled to tour a U.S. Army base just south of Tokyo on Saturday.
