CHICAGO – It will be an explosive 4th of July weekend when Martin’s Inter-Culture presents the 14th Annual African/Caribbean International Festival of Life (IFOL) Friday, June 30 thru Tuesday, July 4, 2006, 10:00 am to 10:00 pm daily in Washington Park, 55th Street & Cottage Grove Avenue, Chicago. Daily admission to the festival is only $10 adults; $5 children under 12 and seniors 65 and older; free to kids 6 and under. A $30 season pass covers all five days. On Saturday, July 1st Original Jackson Five Tito Jackson and the Band and singer/actor Leon (The Temptations, The Five Heartbeats) and the Peoples Band heat it up.
The always provocative Beenie Man rocks the house Monday, July 3rd and on July 4th Reggae legend Barrington Levy, along with R&B and Pop performer Regina Belle shake things up. The festival opens Friday, June 30th with veteran Jamaican ska/rock-steady singer Jackie Brown and Reggaeton singer Specialist.
One hundred other top Caribbean, reggae, world music, gospel and R & B entertainers perform on two stages. Gospel headliners include Jamaican gospel songbird Carlene Davis (July 1-4) ); Dr. Charles Hayes and Warriors (July 1) whose Jesus Will Work It Out is now enjoying popular radio play across the nation, and Chicago Music Award recipient and three-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter/producer Darius Brooks rocks the park July 3rd.
