Jamie Masada Defends Accuser

Posted on: 30th March 2005

Michael Jackson’s defense team has tried to portray the singer as a victim of the accuser and his family, saying they were out to get money from Jackson.

But in court Tuesday, Los Angeles comedy promoter Jamie Masada, who befriended the accuser at a camp for aspiring comedians, turned that around and refuted several key defense theories.

First, Masada said he told the accuser’s family to go to a lawyer — not to plan a sexual molestation lawsuit as the defense says, but instead to try to keep American television networks from repeatedly airing the video that shows Jackson and the accuser, with Jackson admitting he sleeps with boys. Masada testified he was worried the boy would be teased at school.

Second, Masada said he told the accuser’s mother of an anonymous donor who would offer her as much money as she needed to buy a house and take care of her children. She turned it down, saying all she needed were friends and prayers, Masada said, contradicting the defense’s claim she was out for money.

“What you’re seeing here is an objective witness who really has no ax to grind coming out in favor of a key person here,” said CBS News legal analyst Andrew Cohen.

Third, Masada said he took the initiative to introduce the accuser to several comedians, including George Lopez. The defense claims the family went looking for rich people to prey upon.
